Accreditation

The Gibson Rehabilitation Center of Susquehanna Health has been awarded a three-year accreditation for its Inpatient Rehabilitation Programs. This accreditation represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows the organization's substantial conformance to the standards established by CARF. The Gibson Rehabilitation Center has been CARF accredited since the early 1970's.

CARF is an independent, not-for-profit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the individuals served. An organization receiving a three-year accreditation has put itself through a rigorous peer review process and has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit that its programs and services are of the highest quality.

Following this year's on-site survey, Julie Hawkins, administrative director, Rehabilitation services, was notified that the CARF surveyors did not identify any areas of nonconformance to the standards. This is considered to be an extraordinary accomplishment in that only three percent of CARF surveys results in no recommendations. "We are extremely proud of this recent CARF survey outcome," says Ms. Hawkins. It validates our belief that our patients, and the community we serve, receive the highest-quality programs and services that meet state-of-the-art national standards of performance."

In a survey summary, William R. Roth, administrative surveyor and John Reaves, program surveyor, highlighted strengths of the Center:

  • Strong business practices that demonstrate commitment to meeting the rehabilitative healthcare needs of the individuals served. .
  • Strong and effective leadership with the program .
  • Competency and quality of therapy staff members .
  • Strong community advisory committee .

  • Continuum of care that permits the individuals served to be treated by consistent staff members starting in many cases prior to the acute care admission and continuing through outpatient therapy. .
