The Re-entry Program

Progressive Orientation Program

This 8 week program is designed for nurses entering the inpatient arena for the first time. It enables nurses to obtain further educational and clinical preparation while earning full salary and benefits.

Participants are:

  • Newly licensed graduate nurses.
  • RN's with less than two years recent inpatient experience.

Program components include:

  • Interrelated didactic and clinical modules.
  • Reinforcement of skills and critical thinking abilities.
  • Lecture, discussion and case study presentations.
  • Topic content includes review of anatomy, physiology, pathphysiology, nursing care and medical management of common diseases as well as time management, delegation, communication and conflict resolution.

Clinical experiences are:

  • Guided by specific performance objectives.
  • Evaluated on a day-to-day basis.
  • Precepted by experienced RN staff.
Critical Care Nursing Fellowship

Jump start your career with our Critical Care Nursing Fellowship. This highly structured, 26 week orientation program is designed to transition the nurse into the critical care environment. This opportunity enables you to obtain further educational and clinical preparation while earning full salary and benefits.

Participants are:

  • Newly licensed graduate nurses.
  • RN's with less than two years recent inpatient experience.

Components include:

  • Advanced Clinical Concepts course.
  • Ventilator course.
  • Basic Arrhythmia course.
  • ACLS.
  • IV Certification.
  • Precepted clinical experiences.

Requires two-year RN employement commitment upon successful completion of fellowship.

Emergency Department Nursing Fellowship

In June, the Emergency department offers a Nursing Fellowship for graduating nurses and nurses who have up to one year experience. The Fellowship includes:

  • 8 weeks of intensive one-to-one classroom and clinical study.
  • 8 weeks orientation with a preceptor.

Completion of the Fellowship provides nurses with a level of security, comfort and confidence that is needed to work in the highly specialized field of emergency department nursing.

Requires two-year RN employement commitment upon successful completion of fellowship.

The Re-entry Program

What To Expect From The Program

Susquehanna Health System's Re-entry Program is part of our Continuing Professional Education Program and provides a refresher course/employment opportunity for Registered Nurses. The program was developed to address the employment needs of nurses interested in re-entering the acute care work environment after an extended time away from hospital employment.

The Re-entry Program nurse can expect:

  • A program individualized in content to their needs.
  • Full employment benefits and salary.
  • Acute care employment opportunities upon course completion.

Prior To Applying To The Program

Before applying for acceptance in the Program, you also participate in a four to twelve hour clinical observation in the Rehabilitation Unit on The Williamsport Hospital campus and in the Medical Surgical Unit on the Muncy Valley Hospital campus. This gives you an opportunity to explore the various areas of acute care and decide if the Program is right for you.

Applying For Admission

Upon completion of the clinical observation, you apply for admission to the Re-entry Program. Successful applicants complete the Program as 1.0 or 0.8 full time employees with rotation and every other weekend with their RN preceptor. Additional hours will not be required until the completion of the Re-entry Program.

Instruction Classes And Clinicals

Re-entry Program participants receive instruction on the following:

  • General Hospital Orientation (2 days).
  • Documentation.
  • Technology Update.
  • Basic Life Support.
  • Basic Arrhythmia.
  • Point Of Care Testing.
  • Pharmacology Update (There is a medical test at completion of this instruction).
  • IV Therapy.
  • Crisis Intervention.
  • Laboratory Value Update.
  • Overview Of Healthcare.
  • Critical Thinking Update.
  • Current Issues In Healthcare.

Weeks one and two consists of three classroom days and one or two clinical days. The remainder of the Program consists of clinical experiences and didactic components. Participants are assigned to the Rehabilitation Unit on The Williamsport Hospital campus and the Medical Surgical Unit on the Muncy Valley Hospital campus.

Resource Text Book

Participants must purchase the required fundamental resource text. Drug dosage calculation text is optional.
