Observations

Observing professionals at work can give both students searching for a career path and adults looking to change careers a real-life glimpse of a profession. Our Department of Volunteer Services coordinates observations whenever possible. If you are interested in observing a professional at work please contact us.

  • Call 570-321-2433.
  • Specify the field in which you would like to observe.
  • Please give at least two week's notice to arrange for an observation.

Anyone in 10th grade or above may request to observe a professional at work. No application is required.

Internships

How Can I Get An Internship With SH?

To be eligible for an internship at Susquehanna Health, the student's technical school, college or university must be an academic affiliate with SH. This must be an agreement written by SH and signed by both parties. Please call 570-326-8400 to verify current agreement.

  • If a current agreement is not on file, the academic institution must submit an application. Download Application
  • Approved new affiliations will prompt an SH agreement to be sent for signatures.
  • Family Center For Reproductive Health.
  • Submit a student application at least 2 months in advance. Download Application
    • The requested department will be contacted for approval and may require an interview by phone or in person.
    • Approved student assignment will prompt an acceptance letter from the volunteer office outlining the requirements.

Internship Requirements for accepted students

  • Submit the following information before your internship begins.
    • Documentation of professional liability insurance ($300,000/claim minimum required).
    • Current Pennsylvania Criminal Clearance is required. If you are not a Pennsylvania resident you must provide FBI clearance. You may do this online at www.pa.cogentid.com - for the Cogent System, or www.verifiedcredentials.com/index.cfm for Verfied Credentials. either of these may be used for your FBI clerence.
    • Documentation of health insurance.
  • Schedule orientation with the Volunteer office and attend.
  • Submit a $10 cash deposit for name badge and parking permit during orientation. This fee is refunded when you personally return the items within one month of the last day of the internship.

Information For Colleges/Universities

Susquehanna Health welcomes the opportunity to support healthcare career education in conjunction with technical schools, colleges and universities. To participate in an internship with Susquehanna Health, universities and institutions must sign and submit SHS's Academic Agreement. The agreement must be signed by the President of the institution or an authorized representative, and returned to Susquehanna Health. To request an Academic Agreement, contact:

Health Careers Summer Camp For High School Students

The 2008 Annual Health Careers Camp is scheduled for June 11-13 at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Sponsored by Susquehanna Health and Penn College, the three-day, two-night camp is designed for students in grades 9-12 interested in learning more about healthcare careers. Participants will learn about a range of healthcare careers including:

  • Nursing .
  • Occupational therapy.
  • Paramedic technology.
  • Radiography.
  • Dental hygiene.
  • Physical fitness specialties.
  • Physician assistants.
  • Surgical technicians.

The camp includes hands-on and interactive activities and workshops, including guided tours of various hospital departments. Fun activities are planned for the evenings, including recreation in the Student Center at Penn College, movie night and a luncheon for campers and their families. Students will also receive information about attending Penn College, Susquehanna Health's VolunTEEN program and financial aid.
