Susquehanna Health recently recognized more than 20 employee service partners and two employee teams with five unique awards during the second annual Celebration of Excellence awards ceremony. The program, held at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center (WRMC), honored employees for excellent performance in the areas of quality, patient safety, efficiency, service and patient experience. Assistant Vice President of Information Technology Tim Schoener provided opening remarks and an overview of the awards.
Administrative Director of Quality and Safety Candy Dewar presented the Chairman’s Quality Award to Crystal Gilbert, Clinical Coordinator of the Pharmacy and Kim Hunter, Supervisor of The Birthplaceä for their team’s efforts in successfully implementing steps to provide better nutrition for premature babies in The Birthplaceä Level II Nursery. The team’s results improved both newborn care and patient outcomes. Dewar also presented awards for Patient Safety to Jessica Miller, RN, Inpatient Behavioral Health, Divine Providence Hospital (DPH); Lisa Tanner, RN, Emergency Department, Muncy Valley Hospital (MVH); Debra Cahn, RN, Operating Room, WRMC; Lori Kepner, Radiology, WRMC and Jensyn Seely, LPN, Outpatient Behavioral Health, Susquehanna Health Medical Group (SHMG).
The John C. Lundy Efficiency Award was presented by Schoener on behalf of Mr. Lundy to recognize employee service partners who suggest ideas for improvement and create efficiencies through the STAR (Saving Resources, Improving Timeliness and Efficiency, Adding Revenue, Reducing Cost) Employee Suggestion Program. Recipients of this year’s awards include Candy Kinley, Anesthesia Department, WRMC; Sue Sarginger, Shelley Selleck and Margaret Young, Health Services Pharmacy/ Long Term Care, DPH; Sally Frantz, Operating Room, MVH; Teresa Ashley, Nicole Hauck, Rebecca Venema and Mike Rupert, Patient Financial Services, SHMG.
Sister Ann Marie Paul, director of Mission Integration & Ethics, and Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer Karen Armstrong presented the 2010 CARE Employee Service Partners Awards for outstanding contributions to service excellence. The award is presented to employee service partners who regularly demonstrate behaviors that reflect Susquehanna Health’s mission, vision, value and True North statements. This year’s winners include Lynne Fazler, Surgical Associates, SHMG; Brenda Lee, ARAMARK, WRMC; Sheila Paulhamus, Finance, DPH and Althea Smith, Skilled Nursing Unit, MVH.
Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer Sue Duchman presented the Superior Patient Experience Award to the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit for their efforts in using “voice of the customer” techniques to create customer inspired services and delivery.
In his closing remarks, President & CEO Steven Johnson encouraged attendees that while facing an extraordinary period of change in the healthcare industry, “the most important element of how we manage this process is our continued focus on our patients. During a time when situations and circumstances are most challenging, it is more important to be centered, more important to be properly focused than when things are going well,” he said. “I implore all of you that whatever it is we do and wherever it is we go in our future here at Susquehanna Health, that we do it with the patient-centered, family-focused enthusiasm that is absolutely second-to-none.”
