New ED at WRMC Designed to Improve Patient Care, Efficiency
Patients and visitors to WRMC’s Emergency Department (ED) will notice dramatic changes in March with the opening of the Susquehanna Tower. In this first stage of the improvement process, 22 newly constructed private treatment rooms replace the previous 17 curtained bays. These new treatment rooms help in controlling infection, reducing noise, improving patient confidentiality and providing a comfortable space in which to await test results. Each room is equipped with a comfortable bed, flatscreen television and seating for visitors. Technology-enabled nursing stations located outside the patient rooms allow for direct patient observation and efficient order entry, review of test results and record keeping. Patients requiring critical care will be treated and evaluated more quickly using the ED’s two new critical care rooms and radiology and CAT scan suites.
In October 2012, the new ED officially opens with the completion of the second stage and expansion to a total of 36 private treatment rooms. Using this two-staged approach, the ED will continue to provide uninterrupted care to patients throughout the construction project. During the construction and transition period, we appreciate everyone’s patience as the newly expanded ED is completed.
