UPMC Susquehanna is offering an educational program for older adults – Senior Lifestyle and Injury Prevention (SLIP) at The LifeCenter, Williamsport Branch YMCA, 641 Walnut St., Williamsport. Classes are a two part series. During the first class, attendees are educated on fall prevention and home safety, and the second class is focused on driving and pedestrian safety.
Staff from UPMC Susquehanna Outpatient Physical Therapy will participate in class one of the series offering assessments and referrals to primary care providers if needed.
Class series Wednesday, August 21, and Wednesday, September 18.
The SLIP injury prevention program is designed to address the needs of older adults. Elderly persons are disproportionately at risk for poor outcomes following injury, and are rapidly growing in the overall population. The aging process affects visual, cognitive, and psychomotor skills, and even simple tasks of daily living can put older adults at risk for injury. These facts support the need for injury prevention programs like this one.
