Friends of Soldiers + Sailors Raises Funds for Residents at UPMC’s The Green Home
Thanks to the generosity of donors in the community, Susquehanna Health Foundation’s annual Friends of Soldiers + Sailors campaign raised $32,036. In addition, Citizens & Northern Bank provided a match for the funds, resulting in an additional $4,500, bringing the total raised to $36,536. These funds will be used toward the purchase of It’s Never 2 Late (iN2L), a customizable and mobile system to augment the resident’s daily activities and enhance their overall quality of life—both mentally and physically.
“iN2L is engaging, user-friendly, and the residents will benefit greatly from the system,” said Wendy Erway, nursing home administrator, UPMC The Green Home. “This system offers our team additional ways to interact with our residents and enrich their experience while in our care. iN2L allows virtually any person to participate in activities like bingo, exercises, and trivia, regardless of background, physical, or intellectual abilities. It’s helping us to take the care we provide to another level.”
iN2L, combines touch screen computers with intuitive, picture-based software and an extensive, continually updated content library to provide a personalized experience for every user. In long-term care, providers can use the technology for restorative, family interaction, or leisure purposes, as well as in group settings or one-on-one. In other UPMC facilities, iN2L has been life-changing for residents from connecting them to live family events like births and weddings or connecting them to past passions of flying planes and playing the piano.
“The efforts of this Friends campaign help us to provide this great resource to address the needs of those we serve,” said Anne Holladay, vice president, Operations, UPMC Senior Communities. “We are appreciative of the Friends of Soldiers + Sailors committee’s hard work and continued dedication to our organization and the community.”
The 2019 Friends of Soldiers + Sailors Committee includes Roger Bunn, Bonelyn Kyofski, Joseph R. Maresco, Maryann Maresco, Bev McKnight, Anne McNaight, June Rudy, Sue Sticklin, and Ann Vayansky.
The Friends campaign raises funds annually to support UPMC Wellsboro and UPMC’s facilities in the Wellsboro region. All donations stay local and benefit patients.
