Heartworks, UPMC Susquehanna’s free peer support program for grieving children, teens, and their families, is accepting registration for the 2019-20 school year. The program begins Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. at UPMC Williamsport Regional Medical Center, Divine Providence Campus, 1100 Grampian Boulevard, Floor 3, and the group meets twice a month throughout the school year. Families can join at any time.

“Our lives today are so hurried, we often don’t allow ourselves time for the feelings we have when a loved one dies, for adjusting to the changes their absence brings and for simply remembering those who have died,” said Linda Bryant, Heartworks coordinator. “Our groups offer a safe and caring place for children, teens, and their families to have the support of others as they are going through similar losses.”

Heartworks' staff and trained volunteers provide a safe and caring environment where attendees may express their feelings and develop coping skills following the loss of a loved one. The Heartworks program uses art, play, music, discussion, and remembering to help children understand and work through their emotions. A light meal is served prior to the group meetings.

Registration is required. To register, please contact Linda Bryant at 570-320-7691 or bryantl3@upmc.edu
