Nursing Moms Invited to Participate in Global Latch On Event

by UPMC Susquehanna

In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week (Aug. 1 – 7), UPMC Susquehanna invites nursing mothers to participate in The Global Big Latch On, Friday, Aug. 2, at UPMC Williamsport Regional Medical Center, 700 High St., Williamsport, Walnut Conference Room.

Global Big Latch On events take place at registered locations around the world, where mothers gather together to breastfeed and offer peer support to each other. Breastfeeding contributes to the optimal growth and development of babies and children. Breast milk naturally helps reduce the risk of infant morbidity and mortality, adult obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and breastfeeding protects against osteoporosis, and premenopausal breast cancer and ovarian cancer for mom.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and nursing will start at 10:30 a.m. Certified lactation consultants from The Birthplace at UPMC Susquehanna will be available to answer questions and support. Light refreshments will be available.

For more information and pre-registration, email Natalie McCullenn, RN, BSN, international board certified lactation consultant, at mccullennk@umpc.edu or call 570-321-2092.
