UPMC Partners with Regional Athletics Programs for Pink Outs

by UPMC Susquehanna

Each year in the United States, more than 245,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 women die from the disease. UPMC Susquehanna is partnering with regional high school and college athletics programs to help raise breast cancer awareness by painting the fields and courts pink during special Pink Out games. Athletes, coaches, and cheerleaders will don pink socks, T-shirts, shoelaces and more, and pink giveaways including pom-poms, mini footballs, and foam fingers will be available for fans.

“Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women and it’s important to be diligent about breast health,” says Susan Branton, MD, FACS, medical director, Kathryn Candor Lundy Breast Health Center, UPMC Susquehanna. “Partnering with our regional athletics programs to host the Pink Out games is a visual way to remind everyone in our communities of the importance of being informed and taking action to fight breast cancer.”
