UPMC Susquehanna Recognizes Extraordinary Nurses

by UPMC Susquehanna

Two UPMC Susquehanna nurses were recently recognized as recipients of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

Kathleen Culliao, RN, a nurse at UPMC Susquehanna Muncy, was recognized after being nominated by two patients. “Kathleen went out of her way to help me when I was ill,” said one patient. “Kathleen took the time to address all my concerns and make sure I had what I needed. She’s very compassionate and caring. Of all the nurses that I’ve had care for me, Kathleen has been the best,” said the other patient.

Rebecca Castle, RN, a clinician at the Birthplace at UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport, was recognized after being nominated by a patient and co-worker. “Becky was there for me and my family during a hard time years ago and we were very happy to have her be our nurse during our most recent pregnancy. Knowing our history, Becky worked with our providers to make sure that we received the best care during every appointment. She was by our side when I came in to deliver, helped keep our family informed, encouraged me along the way, and I credit her with helping us to be blessed with our son. Becky is an exceptional nurse and fantastic co-worker,” said the patient.

UPMC Susquehanna nurses are honored as DAISY Award winners every quarter. Anyone can nominate a nurse for the award including co-workers, patients, patient’s family members, or physicians. Nomination forms are available at nursing stations and at UPMCSusquehanna.org/DAISY.

The DAISY Awards are currently presented at more than 900 hospitals, both nationwide and internationally. Supported by both American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and The American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Recognition Program, the DAISY award program is part of the not-for-profit DAISY Foundation based in Glen Ellen, Calif. All winners will be highlighted on the DAISY Foundation’s website.
