Care for Thyroid Diseases
The thyroid is the small, butterfly-shaped gland located in the neck, just above the collarbone. Your thyroid helps regulate a number of activities in the body that have to do with the body’s metabolism.
We use the following tests to diagnose thyroid conditions:
Types of Thyroid Disorders We Treat
If a thyroid disease is interfering with your daily life, we’re here to help you. Our team of Williamsport endocrinologists have years of experience treating a wide variety of thyroid disorders, including:
Follicular thyroid cancer. This type of thyroid cancer develops inside the follicular cells of the thyroid gland.
Papillary thyroid cancer. This is the most common type of thyroid cancer and develops inside the follicular cells.
Thyroid lymphoma. This is a very rare type of thyroid cancer that develops inside the immune system cells.
Medullary thyroid cancer. This type of thyroid cancer develops inside the C cells of the thyroid gland.
- Hypothyroidism— occurs when your thyroid gland isn’t active enough. The disease means that not enough thyroid hormone exists in the blood stream. Hypothyroidism is more common in women.
- Hyperthyroidism— means your thyroid gland is overactive. If your thyroid is too active, it makes more thyroid hormones than your body needs. Hyperthyroidism is common in women and people over the age of 60.
