Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
UPMC's Wound Healing Center is dedicated to optimizing outcomes and preventing lower limb loss in patients with chronic, non-healing wounds. If you or a loved one has a wound or sore that has not healed in 30 days, you may have what is referred to as a “chronic, non-healing” wound.
Often complicated by underlying conditions such as diabetes, circulation problems or previous radiation treatment, the simplest of wounds can turn into a significant problem because the body’s normal healing process is affected. Other types of chronic wounds result from pressure, trauma, or infection. Chronic, non-healing wounds can have serious health consequences and may adversely affect your quality of life.
Exceptional Wound Care
As a comprehensive wound healing center, we offer treatment for all chronic, non-healing wounds including:
- Arterial/ischemic ulcers
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Non-healing, post-surgical wounds
- Post-radiation ulcers
- Pressure ulcers
- Venous ulcers
Chronic, non-healing wounds can have serious health consequences and may adversely affect your quality of life.
Your Initial Visit
During the initial visit, a comprehensive medical history will be obtained and a physical examination performed. Of course, attention will be given to your wound. Please bring a list of your current medications and the dosage currently prescribed.
If any tests related to the wound have been performed outside of UPMC, please ask your provider to fax a copy of the results of those tests to (570) 326-8551 for review prior to your appointment if at UPMC Williamsport Divine Providence Campus. The initial visit may take up to 90 minutes, so please be prepared for the time necessary for a proper evaluation.
Other studies may be ordered such as:
- Blood tests
- Cultures
- Tests to evaluate venous and/or arterial circulation
- X-rays and other imaging procedures
Our mission is to provide expert medical treatment to patients who suffer from wounds that have failed to heal despite usual medical treatment. In addition to a variety of wound care treatments, our facility also provides hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT).
While our focus is on wound healing, we will address overall health issues that affect your ability to heal and will work with your personal physician on these issues. Our team of providers has specialized training in the field of advanced wound care and healing.
